What Shidduch is
Shidduch is a matchmaking platform for Jewish singles — and for the people helping them, such as parents — provided by MDY as a service to the community. The platform suggests potential matches; a human shadchan handles every introduction.
We make no promises about outcomes. A shidduch depends on people, not software, and we are not a party to any introduction, date, or engagement that follows from one.
Who may use it
- You must be of legal age in your jurisdiction to use the service.
- You may create a profile for yourself, or for someone else (such as your child) only with their knowledge and consent. A profile made for someone who doesn't know about it will be removed.
- One person, one profile. Accounts are personal — keep your login to yourself.
Your responsibilities
- Provide accurate, current information — about yourself or the person you're representing. A shidduch built on wrong facts helps no one.
- Be respectful. Harassment, impersonation, or misuse of anyone's information is prohibited and may result in removal.
- You may not contact other members through the platform; introductions are made by a shadchan. Messages you exchange with your shadchan on the site are for working your own shidduch.
- Treat what you're shown as private. Profiles, photos and resumes are shared with you for the sake of a shidduch — not for passing around.
- Keep your status honest: if you're pausing, engaged, or no longer looking, update your profile so nobody's time is wasted.
Content you upload
You keep ownership of your photos and resume. You grant us permission to store them and to display them to potential matches, to the shadchanim who facilitate introductions, and to anyone you yourself share your profile with.
Only upload what you have the right to share. We may remove content that breaks these terms.
What it costs
Using this site is free. There is no membership fee, no charge to be suggested, and no charge to be introduced. The platform is provided by MDY as a service to the community.
That is separate from the shadchan. A shadchan who redts a shidduch is doing the same work a shadchan has always done, and should be paid for it in the traditional way — shadchanus is customarily paid by both sides on the engagement. This site being free does not change that, and nothing here should be read as suggesting a shadchan works for nothing. We take no part in that payment and no cut of it.
For shadchanim
These additional terms apply to anyone approved to work as a shadchan here. By using the shadchan desk you agree that you will:
- Keep your login to yourself. Accounts are personal and must never be shared — the desk shows real people's contact details and private information.
- Check in regularly — at least once every 24 hours — so matches waiting on you aren't left sitting.
- Take on at least two matches a week when they're available (more as the platform grows).
- Keep the system updated: move each shidduch's status as it changes and leave a note, so the record reflects what's actually happening.
- Treat everything you see here as confidential. Contact details, resumes, notes and messages are for working the shidduch in front of you, and nothing else.
- Use the on-site messaging only with singles whose shidduch you are handling, and only about that shidduch.
- Give the site credit when a shidduch you took from here comes to fruition, so people know where it came from — and follow the general terms above.
Some shadchanim choose to give their maaser from shidduchim made through this site to MDY. That is a suggestion and a bracha, not a requirement, and nothing here obliges you to do it.
Approval to work as a shadchan can be withdrawn if these terms aren't kept. The record of your work and your conversations are preserved either way — removal closes the desk, it doesn't erase history.
Privacy
What we collect, how it's used, and who can see your profile are set out in the Privacy Policy.
No warranty
The service is provided as-is, free of charge, in the hope that it helps. We do our best to keep it running and accurate, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service, and we are not responsible for the conduct of members or shadchanim, on or off the platform.
Ending your use
You can delete your account at any time from your profile page — deletion removes your profile, photos, resume and match history. We may remove profiles or accounts that violate these terms.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform grows. The current version is always on this page; continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
