Terms of Use
Shidduch, provided by MDY · Privacy Policy
What Shidduch is
Shidduch is a matchmaking platform for Jewish singles — and for the people helping them, such as parents — provided by MDY as a service to the community. The platform makes the suggestions; a human shadchan handles every introduction.
We make no promises about outcomes. A shidduch depends on people, not software. We are not a party to any introduction, date, or engagement that follows from one, and we are not responsible for what members or shadchanim do, on or off the platform.
What we don't verify
MDY Shidduch is a volunteer-run matchmaking platform. Matches are based solely on user-submitted information and AI-generated suggestions. MDY Shidduch and its volunteers do not verify personal details or authenticate any medical, genetic, or halachic information.
Genetic Information: Users may share Dor Yesharim ID numbers and date of birth or confirm completion of JScreen or other testing. MDY Shidduch does not access, interpret, or retrieve genetic results. All users are responsible for confirming their own genetic compatibility directly with the appropriate testing provider.
No Professional Advice: MDY Shidduch provides no medical, genetic, psychological, legal, or halachic guidance.
No Guarantees: MDY Shidduch makes no guarantees regarding match quality, compatibility, or the accuracy of user-submitted information.
Limitation of Liability: MDY Shidduch and its volunteers are not liable for any decisions, outcomes, emotional distress, or consequences arising from participation in the matchmaking process or from sharing personal or genetic information.
User Responsibility: Users are solely responsible for verifying information, ensuring their own safety, and seeking professional or rabbinic guidance when needed.
By using this site, users agree to these terms.
Who may use it
- You must be 18 or older, or the age of legal adulthood where you live if that is higher.
- You may create a profile for yourself, or for someone else (such as your child) only with their knowledge and consent. A profile made for someone who doesn't know about it will be removed.
- One person, one profile. Accounts are personal — keep your login to yourself, and tell us right away if you think someone else has used it.
- Everything you provide must be accurate, current, and complete.
Your responsibilities
- Provide accurate information — about yourself or the person you're representing. A shidduch built on wrong facts helps no one.
- Be respectful. Harassment, impersonation, or misuse of anyone's information is prohibited and may result in removal.
- You may not contact other members through the platform; introductions are made by a shadchan. Messages you exchange with your shadchan on the site are for working your own shidduch.
- Treat what you're shown as private. Profiles, photos and resumes are shared with you for the sake of a shidduch — not for passing around, copying, or posting anywhere.
- Keep your status honest: if you're pausing, engaged, or no longer looking, update your profile so nobody's time is wasted.
- Don't interfere with the service: no scraping, no automated access, no attempts to get at data or accounts that aren't yours, nothing that damages or overloads the platform.
Content you upload
You keep ownership of your photos, resume, and everything you write. You give us permission to store it, back it up, and display it to the people we suggest you to, to the shadchanim who facilitate introductions, and to anyone you yourself share your profile with — and to do the ordinary technical things that displaying it requires, such as resizing photos, generating previews, and translating text so a member who reads another language can understand your profile.
Only upload what you have the right to share. We may remove content that breaks these terms.
What it costs
Using this site is free. There is no membership fee, no charge to be suggested, and no charge to be introduced. The platform is provided by MDY as a service to the community.
That is separate from the shadchan. A shadchan who redts a shidduch is doing the same work a shadchan has always done, and should be paid for it in the traditional way — shadchanus is customarily paid by both sides on the engagement. This site being free does not change that, and nothing here should be read as suggesting a shadchan works for nothing. We take no part in that payment and no cut of it.
For shadchanim
These additional terms apply to anyone approved to work as a shadchan here. By using the shadchan desk you agree that you will:
- Keep your login to yourself. Accounts are personal and must never be shared — the desk shows real people's contact details and private information.
- Check in regularly — at least once every 24 hours — so shidduchim waiting on you aren't left sitting.
- Take on at least two shidduchim a week when they're available (more as the platform grows).
- Keep the system updated: move each shidduch's status as it changes and leave a note, so the record reflects what's actually happening.
- Treat everything you see here as confidential. Contact details, resumes, notes and messages are for working the shidduch in front of you, and nothing else.
- Use the on-site messaging only with singles whose shidduch you are handling, and only about that shidduch.
- Give the site credit when a shidduch you took from here comes to fruition, so people know where it came from — and follow the general terms above.
Some shadchanim choose to give their maaser from shidduchim made through this site to MDY. That is a suggestion and a bracha, not a requirement, and nothing here obliges you to do it.
Approval to work as a shadchan can be withdrawn if these terms aren't kept. The record of your work and your conversations are preserved either way — removal closes the desk, it doesn't erase history.
Privacy
What we collect, how it's used, and who can see your profile are set out in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms.
No warranty
The service is provided as-is and as-available, free of charge, in the hope that it helps. We do our best to keep it running and accurate, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service, and we disclaim all warranties — express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose — to the fullest extent the law allows.
Limits on our responsibility
To the fullest extent the law allows: we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages, or for the conduct of any member or shadchan, arising out of or connected to your use of the service. If we are found liable for anything despite the above, our total liability is capped at $100. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, including for our own willful misconduct.
You cover us
If your use of the service, your uploads, or your violation of these terms causes a claim against MDY, its operators, or its volunteers, you agree to defend and indemnify us — meaning the claim, and the reasonable costs of dealing with it, are yours to carry.
Where disputes go
These terms, and any dispute connected to them or to the service, are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
If you have a claim, first write to us at describing the problem and what you're asking for, and give us 30 days to work it out with you.
If we can't resolve it that way, you and MDY agree that the dispute will be decided by binding arbitration before the Beth Din of America (305 Seventh Avenue, 12th Floor, New York, NY 10001), under its rules, rather than in court — and you waive any right to a jury trial. The Beth Din's decision is final and binding, and may be entered as a judgment in any court with jurisdiction. Arbitration proceedings and their outcomes are confidential. Each side carries its own attorney's fees, and the Beth Din's costs are split evenly.
You may opt out of binding arbitration within 30 days of first accepting these terms by writing to with your full name and a clear statement that you opt out.
Any claim must be brought within one year of when it arose, or it is permanently waived.
Housekeeping
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force. If we don't enforce a term on one occasion, that isn't a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and MDY about the service.
Ending your use
You can delete your account at any time from your account page — deletion removes your profile, photos, resume and shidduch history. We may suspend or remove profiles or accounts that violate these terms, at our discretion.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the platform grows. The current version is always on this page; continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
